APPOINTMENT OF NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

The Board of Directors of the General Employees Co-operative Credit Union Limited is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Maxine Richards-Johnney as the Credit Union’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective June 13, 2024. Mrs. Richards-Johnney’s appointment follows an extensive recruitment and selection process aided by the local Human Resource consultant firms of MA HR Solutions and Joachim and Associates. During this process, local, regional and international candidates were considered and interviewed.

Mrs. Richards-Johnney joined the staff of GECCU in November 2002 as the Accountant and has been an invaluable contributor to the Credit Union’s growth and development over the last two (2) decades. She holds a Master in Finance and Investment from the London School of Business and Finance and is a Fellow of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (FCCA).

Mrs. Richards-Johnney’s leadership has been instrumental in the success of many of the Credit Union’s projects. Her strategic guidance contributed to the establishment of new offices, the amalgamation of three (3) Credit Unions, the change in operational software, the performance management and job evaluation exercise, the Peter’s Hope Land Development Project, the introduction of the ATM service, and the launched of new operational policies and products. Additionally, she worked closely with the Board of Directors and Management in devising and implementing measures to manage various enterprise risks. She was integral in developing and executing a capital restoration plan and a stress-testing tool to combat the adverse effects of different financial and economic shocks, including the 2008/2009 financial crisis and the debilitating effects of the COVID-19 health crisis.

Mrs. Richards-Johnney not only brings a wealth of professional knowledge in financial and organizational management, organizational governance, and human resource management, but also a unique set of personal qualities that inspire her leadership style. Her passion for helping people, commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and strong belief in the cooperative principles of Credit Unions all contribute to her inspiring leadership style.

Throughout her tenure as the organization’s Accountant, Mrs. Richards-Johnney has, on many occasions, acted as Chief Executive Officer, responsible for managing the day-to-day administration of the Credit Union and its employees. Her most recent stint in that position lasted eleven and a half months immediately prior to her appointment as Chief Executive Officer.

The Board of Directors and the entire Credit Union family are confident and extend their warmest congratulations to Mrs. Richards-Johnney on her new appointment. We look forward to working closely with her as we continue to advance the mission and vision of our beloved Credit Union.
