The Social Development Fund was established by a resolution passed at the 38th annual General Meeting held on May 13th 2004. Its purpose is to provide assistance to members who lack the financial resources to recover from emergencies such as storm damage, fire, earthquake, volcanic eruption, serious illness etc. The fund is managed by a Social Development Fund Committee which was appointed by the Board of Directors in accordance with the resolution. GECCU’s Social Development Fund Committee is tasked with the responsibility of managing the fund within specified guidelines. Drawing on contributions by our membership, it is an unrestricted social safety net available to those in demonstrated need.
PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE
The eruption of La Soufriere volcano on April 9, 2021, negatively affected the lives of thousands of Vincentians. During this time of crisis, GECCU, through its Social Development Fund (SDF), assisted by distributing over $60,000.00 worth of aid and vital supplies to shelters and individuals across the nation, living up to its philosophy of People Helping People.
